Who was…We’re talking about the inimitable, irreverent, outspoken, bona fide style icon, master of the ivory keys, and innovator who inspired generations with his music. Little Richard!
Before there was Billy Porter, there was Little Richard. In fact, Billy Porter lends his perspective in the new documentary called, Little Richard: I AM EVERYTHING. It’s almost as if it is a self-titled documentary because this sure sounds like something Little Richard would say to describe himself. Can’t you just hear his voice? “I am everything, chile.”
Out now, the documentary features interviews with the likes of Nile Rodgers, Mick Jagger, Tom Jones, Nona Hendryx, and others, all of whom provide some inside and interesting facts about the incredible impact of the artist whose lyrics were at one time termed as “lewd.” Yet, and still, his lyrical genius would lure white artists to his music, making some noted lyrical changes in order to record their own versions, and in some cases, selling more copies than he did as the innovator.
Little Richard was everything! His blueprint became study material for some of our most important and influential Black artists. We owe so much to Little Richard and at last, there is a way to learn more about him.
