QUINTON MORRIS CONTINUES TO LEAD, CHANGE + CELEBRATE COMMUNITY

Our first published issue of ARTE NOIR in May 2021 featured Dr. Quinton Morris. A young man, still barely in his 40s who has accomplished more than most who have lived to twice his age, Dr. Morris is still creating change throughout the community and he’s also putting a spotlight on others. Q, as his closest friends affectionately know him, continues to make waves in the world and his work continues to enhance the lives of many, mine included.

Part of the reason we find it apropos to revisit the life and accomplishments of Dr. Morris has to do with the release of a new film, Chevalier, based on the true story of composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de St. Georges. In 2015 - 2016, Dr. Morris embarked upon a world tour and produced a short film, Breakthrough, based on the life and music of Chevalier. Having spent many years researching his life and legacy, Breakthrough accompanied Dr. Morris’ live performances and enhanced programs designed to educate his audiences on this little-known French African composer.

Not long after completing his world tour and introducing thousands to the hidden history of Chevalier de St. Georges, Dr. Morris founded the nonprofit Key to Change, now in its 6th year of “inspiring underserved youth through world-class music instruction and supporting their development as self-aware leaders.

On Sunday, May 7th, at the Key to Change Spring Salon, ARTE NOIR founder Vivian Phillips, will receive the inaugural Key to Change Community Award.

May marks the 2nd anniversary of the launch of ARTE NOIR online, and as editor-in-chief and longtime friend, advisor, and collaborator with Dr. Morris, I am beyond excited to have been selected as the recipient of this award, at this time. I’m also excited to attend the salon and experience the brilliance of each student who will perform.

Thank you Q for your incredible vision and for what you have done and will continue to do for young people of color by supporting them in their classical music adventures and providing them with a solid foundation for growth and development. Your work changes lives, and we are so honored to be partners along the way.

Thank you!
