TASWIRA GALLERY REOPENS WITH NEW SPACE + NEW EXHIBIT

"The great artists of our time speak to something universal in each of us. To the Ones Who Remain Unbroken invites us to embrace beauty, hope, and resilience as counterforces to the despair of our current times. It's a space where we're all invited to find connection, even if we don't always feel strong. Our ancestors didn't give up, and now we continue their legacy."

On December 4th, TASWIRA Gallery relaunched in their new Pioneer Square space with a vivid display of new, original artworks from Seattle-based artist Cristina Martinez. Martinez's work is distinctive and colorful, pulling from the feminine form and nature, and is deeply rooted in her Black and Mexican heritage. Her vision for To the Ones Who Remain Unbroken was to pay tribute to everyone who has faced life's challenges - big or small - and celebrate the strength of resilience. Each painting reflects the ways in which we are all inexplicably connected, reminding us that every individual and collective struggle can lead to profound personal growth.

The exhibit was curated by John Wesley, an international art dealer and advisor whose work centers on developing contemporary collections and exhibitions from the Afro-Indigenous diaspora. He has partnered with art galleries in NYC, Seattle, Mexico City, and New Orleans and collaborated on events with the Seattle Art Museum. Founder Avery Barnes opened TASWIRA in its original space two and a half years ago, and we're excited about the growing number of galleries and community hubs that are showcasing diverse contemporary voices from the African Diaspora. The first exhibit in their new space marks the beginning of many exciting things to come for the organization, and we look forward to seeing what comes next! Congratulations!

You can view To the Ones Who Remain Unbroken now through January 15, 2025, at TASWIRA.
